Yorkshire designer joins charity scheme to build homes in Kenya
Project Designer Mark Brear, who lives and works in Yorkshire, is volunteering, through the i-to-i scheme, to work on the Good Samaritan project in Nakura, Kenya where wide-spread disease, low life expectancy and neglect have led to a great many homeless orphans. The project aims to carry out building work in local communities to house these orphans and also improve classroom conditions in overcrowded schools. Mark will be staying with a Kenyan family and some of the other project participants while carrying out the voluntary work.
Mark is one of many Work Inc employees that have taken part in schemes such as this which support a wider company commitment to charitable and sustainable values.
Mark comments: “I can’t wait to get out there and start helping. The team at Work have encouraged me to take part and given me a huge amount of moral and financial support. There are a lot of costs involved in taking part in a project mainly due to administration and health and safety, so I really appreciate the contribution. The scheme relies on volunteers and offers the opportunity to experience a different way of life so donating my time was an easy decision.”
Helen Nicol, Creative Director of Work Interiors adds: “As a company we like to encourage anyone to take part in schemes that will help them develop both professionally and as a person. Mark’s efforts in Kenya will make a real difference and that’s something to be proud of. There should be some great tales to hear on his return. We wish him and everyone on the scheme every success.
